It's always easier to bring back under watered plants vs. Since corking is a natural part of cactus growth. If you find your cactus smells off, remove it from the soil and isolate it.

Rot post by cactushobbyman » sat sep 21, 2013 10:37 pm maybe not the best of pic's, but i got this one at lowe's because it had straw flowers on it and it needed to be saved. Possibly something akin to dry rot or one of the simple wood decomposers. If it's corking from the top, there is another problem.
